A jackal and a camel lived on one side of a river. The jackal
wished to go to the other side of the river and eat crabs there. But he did not
know how to cross the river. He went to the camel and told him that there was
plenty of sugarcane on the other side of the river. The camel agreed to carry
the jackal across the river in return for the information.

Tit-for-Tat
The jackal sat
in the camel’s back and they crossed the river. On reaching the other bank the
jackal jumped down and began to eat the crabs. The camel went to eat the
sugarcane. The jackal finished the meal early and began to run round the field
howlind. The villagers rushed out and beat the camel with sticks. The camel
rushed to the river. The jackal jumped on his back.
The camel asked
the jackal why he played such a trick. To this he said it was his habit to howl
after a good meal. The camel at once said that his habit was to take bath a
good meal. He rolled in the river and the jackal was drowned.
